Character Education: Building Virtues, Values, and Positive School Culture is an introductory online course designed to help educators understand the importance of character development as an essential part of student formation. Beyond academic achievement, schools play a meaningful role in helping students develop values, virtues, attitudes, and behaviors that allow them to make responsible decisions, build healthy relationships, and contribute positively to their communities.
Throughout this course, participants will explore the foundations of character education and how it can be intentionally integrated into everyday teaching practices, classroom routines, school culture, and student interactions. The course emphasizes the role of educators as models of character and guides participants in identifying practical ways to promote respect, responsibility, empathy, honesty, fairness, citizenship, and ethical decision-making among students.
Participants will also learn how character education connects with positive classroom management, social-emotional development, student engagement, and inclusive learning environments. Through reflection activities, practical examples, real-life scenarios, and planning exercises, educators will analyze how values and virtues can be taught explicitly through lessons and implicitly through daily actions, expectations, and relationships.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to design basic strategies and activities to support character formation in their own educational context. They will also create a simple action plan to promote a positive classroom or school culture based on shared values, student responsibility, and meaningful participation.
This course is ideal for teachers, school leaders, academic coordinators, counselors, tutors, and education professionals who want to strengthen the human, ethical, and social dimensions of learning.
